Sandy Aloisi began her career in journalism at Radio 2CC in Canberra in 1976, becoming the first cadet, and first woman, to be hired by the radio station.
It was a pattern that was to be replicated throughout her career. Two years later she was the first woman to be hired by a new radio station in Wollongong, 2 Double 0, as an on the road reporter and newsreader. 18 months later, she joined Radio 2SM, then the number one station in Sydney, and became the first woman to read news on a commercial radio station in the city.
During the following few years, Sandy had three children, and moved to Brisbane with her family, working at 4KQ and the ABC, before returning to Sydney in 1992, and joining 2UE.
At 2UE, Sandy read and edited all major shifts in the newsroom, before becoming deputy news director. In 1998, she became News Director, and in 2002, Program Director, taking on the responsibility of programming the radio station.
After taking a break and working at the ABC, Sandy returned to 2UE in 2008 to co-host the breakfast show with Mike Carlton.
Since Mike’s retirement, Sandy has been paired with a friend and colleague of many years, John Stanley, to wake up Sydney every weekday morning. It is yet another highlight in a radio career that has included:
Covering the Azaria Chamberlain inquest in Alice Springs
Covering the Asian and Australian tour by Pope Jean Paul
Editor in Charge 2UE Sydney Olympic radio coverage
Federal and State election nights coverage
