Unions want employers to join with IAG with 20-weeks parental leave

Unions are calling on other employers to follow the lead of insurance-giant IAG, to give staff 20-weeks paid Parental Leave.

Insurance Australia Group is also paying women double for the first six weeks they're back on-the-job.

The ACTU's Ged Kearney has told David Oldfield the move will encourage more women to return to the workforce.

  • Why only paying the mothers ?

  • Are they kidding, businesses are going broke as it is, and you want them to pay people to stay home ? There`s plenty of unemployed people doing it tough and who could fill in for mothers. Whose going to employ a female of child bearing age, when you have to pay them when they`re not there ? No wonder women don`t think they need husbands anymore !!! Why are we subsidising childcare if the mothers can get paid to stay home anyway ?
