Christchurch in utter devastation following 6.3 magnitude quake

It was a magnitude 6.3 quake that struck Christchurch on February 22, 2011 and claimed the lives of 185 and left New Zealand's second biggest city in ruins. Now, twelve months on, we look across the ditch and remember.

 

 

 

New Zealand Prime Minister John Key says today will be a chance to mourn and also move forward.

 

New South Wales rescue workers will be honoured in New Zealand today for the work they did following the devastating CHRISTCHURCH earthquake, one year ago today.

The team of engineers,doctors and rescue specialists were the first international team to arrive and worked for 23 days.

Chief Superintendent Gary Picken says it had a heavy impact on them.

 

Christchurch Mayor Bob Parker says it's a heavy day.
