Dick Smith calls for a cut to Australian immigration

Dick Smith has been speaking out against a rapid population growth for Australia. He talks to Steve Liebmann about not needing further immigration, and dismisses claims that his call sounds like Pauline Hanson revisited.

  • Why is everyone treating population growth as if it's something that is geographically limited? This is a global phenomenon. We should be figuring out ways of helping humanity rather than looking for people who'll learn English (which is what I'd recommend for a lot of the racists making disparaging remarks).

  • Please view the following series of Youtube videos to appreciate the facts of population growth:

  • When it comes to immigration we should be looking for quality, not quantity. We do not need migrants who will not learn and speak our language, who set up ghettos of similar ethnicity and who teach their children, who are born here, english as a SECOND language. A lot of these children grow up torn between two cultures and end up social misfits, being neither one thing or the other. I appreciate how difficult it is to come to the other side of the world to a new culture and language, but they must be prepared to leave some things behind in order to assimilat. If only for the sake of their children, who are supposed to be Australian.

  • Saturating this country with immigrants has a major impact on our living standards and environment. It makes a mockery of the government concern on global warming/climate change and I believe their agenda is to tax us into using less water and energy, so they can pack more immigrants (voters) into our capital cities like sardines. What happened to our future planning amd why was Bob Carr allowed to keep buying up land for national parks, but not build new dams or roads for the people of Sydney. What a failure he was.
