Police make arrests as Sydney hits 10 shootings in 10 days

Gang-related turf disputes are behind a surge in drive-by shootings in Sydney, but overall NSW gun crime has halved since the 1990s. Claims media focus on drive-bys has distorted what is really happening.

While there has been a spike in drive-bys over the last 16 years, overall gun crime is actually down by 48 per cent over the same period.

Armed robberies involving guns have fallen by more than 50 per cent.

Dr. Don Weatherburn from the Bureau of Crime Statistics says the focus on drive-bys has distorted what is really happening.
