How to save at the checkout
Australian families can save $450 a year if they simply opt against brand names at the checkout.
An experiment in two Sydney stores, comparing brand names and it's generic rivals, showed savings of up to 50 percent.
We're told all basic products have the same ingredients, just different packaging. Consumer Affairs minister Craig Emerson agrees and says most products are the same in quality.
Give us your tips for saving at the checkout and share them with 2UE listeners:

Australians can lower grocery prices by supporting 100% Australian made and owned as Australian product is cheaper than imports.
We are being scammed into believing imports are cheaper when in fact they are dearer than Australian products.
The reason why the supermarkets buy imports is because its cheaper for them to buy and raise a huge markup to make them the most profit for shareholders.
Groceries will always be more expensive under foreign owned companies.Aussiefarmer Sunday 14 March, 2010 - 9:57 PM
