Health Reforms: Bureaucrats scramble to maintain their existence?

Is the claim that Kevin Rudd's Hospital Reform Plan has health services in NSW at risk of closing just bureaucrats scrambling to maintain their existence? Tim Webster is fired up and asks, has anyone got a better plan?

  • I suspect this plan was hurriedly sketched out on an envelope (or whiteboard at best). No hint of a plan last week when Mr Rudd was asked, then the grand plan this week.
Let large (tier 1)hospitals run their own affairs with a board with budgets (operating and capital). They are big enough in their own right to have efficiencies of scale. Group a small number of Tier 2 hospitals together with one board and budgets and so on down to the small country hospitals. And Mr Rudd, how will it save money if, as you say, no one will lose their job?
