The couples who were treated to dinner with Julia Gillard

Gay couples who dined with the PM at the Lodge say they didn't manage to sway her into supporting same-sex marriage. David Oldfield with guest Sandy Miller who says Julia Gillard has acknowledged change is inevitable.

The occasion was organised by activist group GetUp and Australian Marriage Equality which paid $31,000 for the dinner date with the prime minister at a charity auction last year.

There are currently three gay marriage private member's bills before federal parliament, aimed at changing the legal definition of marriage as a union between a man and a woman.

  • Same sex and marriage simply do not go together. LIEberal goons like 'Another Proud' have no clue what he is talking about just as his leader the Phony Abbott and his deput JuLIE Bishop.

Looks like what 'Another Proud' suggests is that you need to have rocks in your head if you want to be a political leader; no wonder his admiration for Phony Abbott.

  • Get Up! tell the whole story please, The Greens propose to remove the words "to the exclusion of all others" from the marriage act. You are opening up a moral decline that will be to the detriment of all families.Poor school kids will have lessons on how good same-sex marriage is, shame they won`t get told about the health aspects.

  • Changing the Marriage Act to change the definition of marriage would be the wrong thing to do and only serve to give some ammunition to the LIEberal right-wing and PHONY Abbott to muddy the issue and play the emotive game.

  • Julia you promised prior to the election that you wouldn`t change the marriage Act, if you think you can break all these promises, you are irrasponsible, maybe Kevin should come back.

  • Time for Same Sex Marriage? NO.
Time to STOP the bloody scam Carbon Tax, the lies, scams, waste, blame, broken promises, manipulation, the sell out Australia asylum policy, non solutions, non governance & the $230 Billion DEBT!
TIME to get Australias priorities right & it is NOT marriage between two mates of the same sex, or with his dog, cat, ute, lawn mower or favourite power tool.
Same sex couples already have a legally recognised relationship between two people who intend to live together as sexual & domestic partners & can call this a legal partners union or call it what they will, as they refer to each other as partner not wife or husband & already have equality before the law as does a married or de facto couple would with property rights etc.
Marriage is already defined between a man & a woman, husband & wife & has been such for thousands of years.
What next the lowering of the age of consent to 10 years old?
ANY change to the Marriage Act is NOT high on the agenda of priorities to the Australian electorate; & want marriage to remain between a man & a woman & if the minority group want changes they can put it in a referendum to the people at the next election.
The JuLIAR LIEbor Green does NOT have a mandate for the fraudulent job destroying SCAM Carbon Dioxide Tax & do NOT have the absolute authority of the people to enact it & has overstepped the authority they were given to act in the interests of the people & Australia.
LIEbor Green Govt should NOT push the Coalition to have a conscience vote as LIEbor have NOT allowed ANY of their own members to cross the floor on ANY legislation; otherwise they would face immediate dismissal from the Labor Party.

  • Would Madam Gillard be so kind as to concentrate on doing the job she's paid for, instead of indulging in irrelevancies?
