Recognition of indigenous Australians

Posted by: 2UE | 30 January, 2012 - 12:43 PM
Did the British invade Australia or did they colonize the country?

Labor is to hold a referendum on the constitutional recognition of indigenous Australians at or before the next federal election due, in 2013. David Oldfield & Mark Leiber co-chair of Julia Gillard's expert panel of advisors.

  • Labour wants a referendum on this but why should we? We never had a referendum on multiculturalism! The labour scum knew at the time that Australian people would have voted no, so they gave us multiculturalism anyway and only the big companies and the government are benefitting from it. They dont have to live in the mess they created. This is why i hate them. This is why i wish nothing but the worst for them and their families.

  • NO this has been proposed by LIEbor NO way.
This is a socialist divisional agenda.
The Constitution is for ALL the people as is, and already protects our rights.
NO special cases, races, privileges or rights to be added or removed.
I think using any guilt reasoning to sell it, stay well clear of the change, risking our sovereignty & would have more to do with future illegal immigration.
Why, because we have in power a socialist govt with open border policy & a New One World Govt ideological policy & we are NOT going to hand our governance over to no one. Beware of turning your power to the unknown.
Definitely not with a huge panel of LIEbor Govt picked EXPERTS!

  • Aboriginals don't need to be mentioned in the Australian Constitution. The nation is supposed to be one.If this is put up by the liars in the labor/greens/turncoat minority government there will be another agenda. Last year we taxpayers forked out $5.5 billion dollars on Aboriginal programs. So what is the agenda now Ms.Gingerella?

  • Wow Robert - things are really black and white with you! I can see where youre coming from but just don't moan when the Chinese take your house cause we haven't developed the country to their liking.
Obviously colonisation was inevitable and yes British rule was relatively benign but even in those times indigenous ownership of land was recognised in law.
I think the constitution preamble John Archer quoted is patronising and demeaning to aboriginals - Leave it out!

  • Yes Robert you have summarised the position with aboriginals to a tee. They can be very, very grateful that it was not the Japanese, French or Dutch who formed the First Settlement. Why? Because every aboriginal would have been killed by one or more of those 'invaders'. I rest my case! Just get on with life!
