Barry O'Farrell admits 'stuff up' of disabled school public transport

An inquiry's been ordered into a bureauratic bungle which has stranded hundreds of children with disabilities, on the first day of the NSW school year.

740 children who are supposed to be taken to school under the "Assisted Transport Program" have been forced to stay at home, or find other transport, because of a problem awarding tenders.

The state's Education bureaucrats are meeting tonight - to try to solve a bungle, with a transport scheme for disabled school students.

740 students have been left stranded on Day One of the school year, because transport operators either haven't signed-up to, or have withdrawn from, government contracts.

Education Director-General Michelle Bruniges tells Paul Murray her Department is working to fix the problem.

Angry parents have criticised the State Government over a bungle with the Assisted School Travel Program.

Over 700-students with disabilities were left stranded yesterday when the free transport failed to arrive.

Premier Barry O'Farrell tells Jason Morrison he has launched an inquiry into the matter to try and prevent it from happening again.

  • The Department has been trying to reduce funding for this program for years. Obviously someone stufeed up by not making it claer to the Minsieter that this scheme is bottomless money pit.

  • I hope the new NSW Government under Mr O'Farrell is not going down the same track as the failed, useless labor party when it was in 'government' in NSW. They need to do a review of staffing as many of the knuckleheaded labor supporters are still there in the public service stuffing up the system.
