Supermarket war on vegetable prices

Shoppers already know inflation is rising at the supermarket

Will Australian farmers be crushed by the new price war between Woolies and Coles? The battle lines are drawn on a new round of price cutting as Jason Morrison reveals it is fruit and vegetables prices that will be slashed.

Despite continuing talk of a retail-slump - Woolworths has recorded a five-and-a-half-percent increase in it's first-half-sales to almost 30-Billion-Dollars. It says the result's been achieved despite falling prices.

And the latest area of price-cuts in Fruit and Vegetables. Woolworths is expected to react to Coles' move to slash some produce-price by half. But, William Churchill from Aus-Veg warns it could drive some growers out-of-business.

  • Where is the pretend ACCC?? Once the growers and smaller fruit shops are completely eliminated. Just watch all the "cheap" prices skyrocket again. All with the nodding approval of the dumb Labor government who are approving the importation of even more unwanted and unneeded Chinese produce. Meanwhile the smart Chinese government are buying-up our very best farms!!.
