Sydney’s all too often P-plate deaths
Yet another tragic weekend on the roads of Sydney with three young people dead. Again, we're talking about p-plate drivers and Tim Webster points out what now needs to be done to save the lives of further young drivers.

More driver training is needed for young drivers to teach them the limits of their control over a car.
And please, let us have no more headlines such as "the car lost control". The car didn't lose control, the driver did.Duck Dodgers Monday 15 February, 2010 - 1:01 PM -
Teach the young drivers how to drive. Show them action and consequence from the passenger seat. Driver training is the answer not restriction. Put them in a car with somebody that can drive and show them that they dont have the skill they thought they had. Adjust thier attitude. Put in place driver training like they have for a motorcycle licence, get the government to subsidise it. Poles, roads and weather dont kill, people making the wrong decisions behind the wheel kill.

AsIunderstand water was across the road as road drainage was poor. Cars fitted with wide wheels and tyres are more prone to acquaplaning when water covers the road causing the car to become uncontrolable.Yes I agree poles should not be on the edge of the road but remember its all about the money

Yes, I have another idea...lets get rid of the power poles. I'm serious. They are dangerous...right on the edge of the road waiting for someone to smash into them.
According to all the news reports I have read the driver in this instance was not exceeding the speed limit so your suggestion of forcing them to drive on or below the speed limit would not have made any difference.
If there was no power pole on the side of the road, the outcome may not have been as tragic.
How many times have we heard it reported "...was killed when the car crashed into a power pole.."Sue Morrison Monday 8 February, 2010 - 9:31 PM
