The Great Australian Songbook
THE GREAT AUSTRALIAN SONGBOOK
Unquestionably one of the most ambitious projects of recent history, The Great Australian Songbook features 40 of Australia’s finest recording artists performing a selection of the best Australian music from the ‘Last Century’ (CD 1) and ‘This Century’ (CD 2).

The iconic cover art pays tribute to Sir Sidney Nolan’s ‘Ned Kelly’ (1946) and is an original work by acclaimed Australian artist Rolf Harris, commissioned specifically for this release.
The Great Australian Songbook will be available in two formats;
Standard Edition, 2 CD
Release date : Friday 4 November, 2011
The ‘music only’ option presented as a standard double CD.
Deluxe Journal Edition, 2 CD, 90-page
Release date : Friday 25 November, 2011
The Deluxe Journal Edition features the two CD’s in a 90-page hardback journal presented in a gift box. Each artist created their own double-page spread with handwritten lyrics, artwork, photos and memorabilia and even the odd anecdote - anything they thought would bring their song to life.
Highlights Include:
Midnight Oil’s handwritten lyrics to ‘Beds Are Burning’, their tour itinerary and notes from their 1986 ‘Black Fella White Fella’ Tour.
Hunters & Collectors included their original lyrics for ‘Throw Your Arms Around Me’, written over 20 years ago.
Colin Hay contributed his lyrics while on tour in Brazil and provided the real story behind ‘Down Under’.
Kylie Minogue has written in her own hand what ‘Can’t Get You Out Of My Head’ means to her.
Steve Kilbey and John Butler provided original paintings as visual interpretations of ‘Under The Milky Way’ and ‘Zebra’ respectively.
Gurrumul’s double-page spread features a photo of his mother, Daisy, and his Aboriginal lyrics are embossed onto the page in braille.
The last minute addition of Gotye’s ‘Somebody That I Used to Know’.
