Thousands of local jobs go offshore

Louie the Fly being killed off by Mortein?

Thousands of manufacturing jobs have gone offshore in just the last couple of months. Mortein is the latest. Save Louie? Save local jobs! Jason Morrison on what has gone wrong. Listen to Dave Morgan who has lost his job.

Unions say more support is needed for the car industry, with up to 200 jobs set to go at Holden's Adelaide plant.

Holden blames the high Australian Dollar for the decision. Dave Oliver from the Manufacturing Workers Union admits things will only get worse for the industry.

  • I find the response by the prime minister extraorinarily shallow and hollow .NEITHER THE LABOR NOR Coalition nor greens give a damm.About the fact that we are now no longer a self sufficent country.THEY DONT CARE ABOUT THE EFFECT of redundancies and bosses complaining about the lack of productivity and workplace culture of australians.i HEARD SENATOR ABETZ Sniping at the employees of toyota saying so sanctimonious and insulting about our productivity and workplace attitude.
One question how are better off with all these senators doing bugger all and then we have sarah hansen young also brown nosing the taxpayers purse and far more interested in the refugees than any australian person and taxpayer who actualies provides her with all her lurks and perks.Leigh rhiannon saying so sacastically that what gina rhinehardt is doing buying fairfax shares is undemocratic and we cant have that. All that the green ideologies have done to us is also clearly undemocratic and we really very badly served and far worse off since they gained the balance of power and influence

  • How absurdly insulting to all Australian workers, to see such a liar, Labor-Julia Gillard on television in tonights 6 o'cock news. Pretentiously spruiking a peculiar desire for manufacturing to stay in Australia. Especially after her fraudulent, anti-Australian manufacturing, carbon dioxide tax scam. That amongst many bad things for the battling working class, will further push even more good Australian manufacturing jobs off-shore forever to China & India. Things must be really grim for corrupt Labor-Julia Gillard, when even Channel 7's rabid, rusted-on Labor champion Mark Riley in total disgust, at long last has apparently given corrupt Labor the big arse. Well done Mark! Furthermore, that outspoken, hypocritical union loudmouth, another wannabe Labor prime minister, AWU honcho Paul Howes' silence is deafening! But at least Paul Howes can write his own vitriolic, I hate Tony Abbott blah blah blah Workchoices speeches. N.B. Workchoices that were here in Australia. As opposed to no work choices in China! Get the picture??

  • No it's not Susan. Poor phony tony has been too busy shoving his foot in his mouth. It's the fault of his lib mates. The ones that weren't dumb and had to go into politics like he did. The same ones that are happy to sell of the companies to Indian business men. Then again you could be right. Gillard and the labor party sit on every board in the country and make these decisions right? You're another libtard Susan. As long as you're not the one suffering it's okay with you and your party to play dirty politics.

  • The high dollar may be harming manufacturing in this country but could it be that the impending Carbon Tax and Union control of this Government are equally driving companies offshore? Oh, but of course, it's Tony Abbott's fault again isn't it?

  • Stop all subsidies and cash payouts to any Australian companies that ship jobs offshore. Start buying only Australian "grown, produced, manufactured and supported products" Walk away from banks that use offshore customer services centres.
Australians should stop whining and start standing up to this third world takeover of our jobs, food, manufacturing and customer service and get a bit of national pride back.
