Tony Abbott to crack down of knives?
Opposition Leader Tony Abbott says he will crack down on violent gangs, and knife crime, if elected. He says he will also fund more metal detectors for police to help them remove knives from the streets.

Does this also mean a ban on my set of very sharp and very dangerous kitchen chef knives? We still have to eat and a knife is a knife. If someone wants to use one for the wrong purpose they can just take it from their kitchen drawer.

Can someone at 2ue please ask Mr Abbott to review the imported weapons laws. A few weeks ago there was a repeat of Border Security that outraged me the first time it was shown and more so this time. There was a timed raid on a number of homes in Adelaide that involved crates of illegally imported very dangerous weapons, mainly many bladed knives. The owner of the goods was a market stall operator and I couldn't believe the penalty he received. Not gaol time, not even a HUGE fine, but community service hours. I'd like someone, ANYONE , to tell us how THAT works. They could have been headed for gangs and massacres could have occurred.

Can you go one step further Mr Abbott please? Not only remove the knives but the people who use them, and permanently. Either lock them up and/or deport them.
