Yesterday on the programme we followed up on a story that Channel 9 ran on Wednesday night... I can honestly say, I can't remember the last time we received so many calls on one issue.

Calls and emails came from people with disabilities, people dobbing people in, and carers... the moment we hung up from someone there was another call to fill the space on the open line board.

It all came down to the fact that people were rorting and cheating, taking advantage of system that was set up for people with genuine need.

There was a suggestion that some doctors may be signing off on the applications and receiving money in return... able bodied people were using the passes to gain all day free parking... passes may have been copied and a black market was operating in Sydney... the list was endless.

One thing we couldn't get an answer on was who's responsible for enforcing their use?

This is a major rort operating in this city and from what we gather all over the country.

  • Hi two Murrays,

My wife used to work for a contract respite company as a carrer, she had an open disssabled parking ticket as she had to pick up people of variose dissabilities.

What they should have is if your a big C/A on it for crrers assistant & D for driver & then scale them say 1-5 depending on dissability or even 1&2 depending on how fast they cn move aswell or if they need physical or mechanical aid to help them, then you cold increase standard parking time by the amount of dissability from say 25% - 100%.

With the C/A permits you would have towhatch them longer to see if they pick up or drop off someone.

    With Regards,

    Craig

  • In the end the disabled sticker rort is one that was set up by the Labor Government for their own political purposes. If a disabled person works anywhere, they usually are provided with a parking space. I don't understand how in the city they can park all day long in areas where offices and workplaces don't exist. Does this mean that they have walked fiurther than thier disability has allowed of have they used PUBLIC TRANSPORT for the short distance need.
