Unleaded ban: how you'll be slugged

Posted by: 2UE | 25 January, 2012 - 8:25 AM
Police go undercover at petrol stations to catch drivers not paying

NSW will ban regular unleaded fuel and replace it with ethanol blend E10, despite independent advice not to go ahead with the move. Jason Morrison reveals the ban will lead to a rise in the cost of ethanol fuel.

The state opposition leader John Robertson has called on the government to delay the unleaded ban by 12 months, saying it would add $500 a year to motorists' petrol bills. He speaks with David Oldfield on the decision to ban unleaded affecting the people who can least afford it at the bowser.

We spoke with Nic Moulis – General Manager, Australasian Convenience and Petroleum Marketers Association.

And he said those wanting to sign a petition should go to this link:

  • don't leave E10 or any ethanol fuel sit in your tank for more than 3 weeks. You are supposed to drain it all and throw it out. E10 is likely to separate and wreck your engine from water damage.

It may be cheaper at the bowser but in the long run will cost you a fortune at the mechanics

  • I think how cute as john robinson was involved with previous goverment and is only talking about delaying the start date.If you delay till next year there will be still a couple of million NSW people slugged with this bipartisian state goverment politicians agreement and it clearly show s they have no concept of what people earn and have left to live especially after they keep slugging us with utility extreme price rises and only minimal wage rise We are struggling.
If people cant use their cars then all that rego monies will be lost to the state and the taxpayers how clever.
THE REALLY GOOD IDEA I SAW WAS the suggestion in a letter to the editor from an ex petrol manufacturer who suggested that it was cheaper to keep the 91 get rid of the 95 because it costs more to make the 95 than the 91
