Police investigate a drive-by shooting overnight at Merrylands

A Sydney family has had a lucky escape after a ute slammed into their Hurstville home, missing one woman by just metres.

The Nissan crossed four lanes of traffic on King Georges Road before it smashed through a fence and into the wall of 19-year-old Ferne's bedroom.

She's told Jason Morrison it was a terrifying experience.

The 41-year old driver who had already lost his licence fled the scene, but has since turned up to hospital with a broken knee.

Police say just minutes earlier they'd tried to pull the ute over for a random breath test.
