Why you'll pay a high price for petrol

Where does your petrol dollar go? Here's the breakdown!

Confidential cabinet minutes show the NSW government agreed to ban unleaded petrol and replace it with ethanol fuel, despite being told it would push up petrol prices. Jason Morrison questions the motives of the move.

From July, the Biofuels Act will see all regular unleaded petrol in NSW replaced with E10 - an ethanol blended unleaded fuel.

However, 746 thousand cars and 92 thousand motorbikes won't be able to run on E10, and will be forced to use the more expensive Premium Unleaded.

Minutes from a December cabinet meeting show the government was warned against dumping regular unleaded by its own energy department and two independent reports.

  • @ James The higher the man raises his hand in the New York Stock Exchange the more we pay and the more GST the Government gets. Now you know how it gets so high and why the Government doesn't want it to come down!
I tried to warn everyone that a percentage GST was bad but nobody listened!
