BLOG: Why we shouldn't kill the Bali bombers
Have your say with John Stanley's Blog on the Bali Bombers - Click here to have your say online with 2UE.
WHY WE SHOULDN'T KILL THE BALI BOMBERS
This week one of our papers published a photo of the shooting range…..or whatever it's called……where the Bali bombers will be shot dead when their death sentences are carried out and I didn't like the way it made me feel.
Part of me was revelling in the thought that they were getting what they'd meted out to so many innocent people.
And I didn't like that because I find execution revolting.
When Saddam Hussein was hanged with the world watching I felt revulsion. Part of that was at my own sense of satisfaction at the humiliating, grubby barbaric death he was facing.
Knowing he'd done just that to so many.
But the image of state ordered execution sickened me more and that is one of the reasons I'd prefer the Bali bombers be jailed for life and not killed. I believe capital punishment demeans us all.
There are other more pragmatic reasons.
Not opposing the death penalty for the bombers undermines our argument on behalf of the young Australians facing death on drug charges in Bali.
And then there is the compelling argument that killing the bombers will turn them into martyrs. Already memorials are planned for them that may become obscene shrines. I'd prefer them locked away until they die of old age and refused access to the outside world.
And they should be banned from being interviewed.
And if we go back to that shooting range where they'll be tied up and shot, think of what will be in their minds as the rifles are loaded. They'll be frightened but also take comfort in the welcome they expect as a reward for their deeds. That of course is barbaric
medieval nonsense but its what is in their heads.
For all those reasons (and there are many more) I'd prefer they weren't killed.

i think the the bombers should have being killed in a slowly and painfully death you look at that 202 people that were killed and many more injured you look at the pain they had to go through so the bombers should off had to go though the same the laws off today are getting soft they should being back the chair for things like this.

Rather sad that opinions are raging with little or no respect for the families and volunteers that were in the horror event. As for opinions on capital punishment - pick up body parts that have been ripped off torso's and treat those with severe burns then have an opinion on the death penalty. Capital punishment should be reinstated around the globe to ensure those that do committ terrible crime there are grave consequences. May these wretched bombers live a life of bacon sandwiches and dog walking!

Where was their GOD when they were executed. If they where doing their GOD'S work then their GOD would have saved them. No such luck.

I agree with John! If we are all saying that we want them dead, then I say we are as barbaric as they are.
I too would like to see them in prison forever, not have visitors or be allowed to interact with others.

Murdering (and that's what capital punishment is) these sick, brainwashed individuals simply turns them into martyrs for this brutal and medievil "cause".
They deserve to rot in rat and cockroach-infested cells for the rest of their natural lives. A quick, painless death via a couple of sniper's bullets makes it too easy for them.
I strongly suspect that these men are looking forward to their "reward" for murdering all those "infidels". As usual, John Stanley is spot on with his assessment.

So we find out that they do not really believe in their own preching. Why are they trying so hard to stay on this Planet when they stupidly preched that it would be better to be a Martyrs. It's a load of crap preached by fools until its time to face the truth. Then they slither like snakes.
