John Stanley on the real NRL 'Chokers'

In his reply to the Puff the Magic Dragon song that is being flogged on 2UE's Sports Today, John Stanley points out the real chokers of the NRL, and asks if they can shed the 'chokers' tag and make it to the Grand Final.

  • Oh John Stanely, such bitterness in you. The Dragons have lost 6 Grand Finals since their last Premiership win. I believe they were:

    1985 '92 '93 '96 '99.

The definitely choked in the 1998 major final and probably in the 2005 major final to North Queensland, but to say they choked in the 2001 Grand Final is a bit harsh. They lost the game by 6 points to a team lead by arguably the greatest ever player in Andrew Johns and one of the most inspirational forwards of recent memory in Ben Kennedy.

It still pales in comparison with the Dragons 6 Grand Final losses in the past 24 years.

  • Gees I believe the dragons played in recent grandfinals against Melbourne and 2 against Birsbane in the early 90. All of which they chocked. You say Parra chocked againt North Qld in 2005. I seem to recall the dragons check against the tiger that same weekend.
