The problem with some people in this city is that they cannot get around the small game mentality.
Although, I am a born-somewhere else Aussie, I love League, Union, AFL & Cricket in particular. But that does not mean I should ignore the best and the more popular sport in the planet.
LetâÃÂÃÂs put aside our comfort-zone sports, where Aussies, almost invariably, are the best, and at worst, are the hardest one to beat, letâÃÂÃÂs make an effort to excel in a field that eventually can make Australian players the most formidable of opponents.
The World Cup can only make Australians better in every way. With the recent Olympic experience and the abundance or sponsorship dollars, I reckon, we can put the âÃÂÃÂBEST SHOW ON EARTH, DOWNUNDERâÃÂÃÂ.Pedro Wednesday 9 December, 2009 - 12:56 AM -
I think it would be fantastic for Australia to host the biggest sporting event in the world. Every Australian would benifit, and the national pride as our contry is shown to he world would unite this country like when Sydney hosted the 2000 games would be awsome. Don't let the NRL and AFL soil the show.

Yes it is worth it! This is 6 times bigger than the olympic games!
I am an AFL fan, but I am a fan of Australia first. I hope the the AFL realise they risk annoying their own fans if they act like a petulant child and risk Australia's world cup bid!

What a disgrace by the NRL/AFL people. They can easily restructure and move around their games to accommodate. It is interesting how their years of bullying soccer was never questioned, yet now when we are bringing the whole world to our country they are whingeing. If we were bidding for the Olympic games, we would not even be having this debate. Pull your head in AFL/NRL and other anti-World Cup followers. Stop being unAustralian.

I think that with the negativity attached to Australia's bid for The World Cup in 2018 or 2022 Australia doesn't stand a chance in hosting. With the NRL and AFL only thinking about themselves. I'm sure there are other stadiums in Victoria, New South Wales, Queensland etc that could host the AFL and NRL games. How this is any different to when Australia bid for (and received) the hosting duties for the Olympic Games in 2000?? The only difference is that they were held after the AFL and NRL seasons had finished. What would have happened if the Olympics were to be staged right in the middle of the regular AFL and NRL seasons?? Would the same negativity have been provided?

G'day,
I have been reading about AFL and NRL's claims as to what would happen I have to admit its a joke. The benifits from this to ALF and NRL are going to be huge. Imagine 80% of the worlds population focused on OZ? or if theres a ALF footy tosed around in the stands and someone in Congo, Spain or some other part of the world goes "oh I wonder what game that is" and decided to get a ball and learn what its about..? this can only do good for the so called "our game" whats the point of having a sport if you don't want to share it with the rest of the world. And there no bigger stage to show all things Australian to the world then the World Cup.. It dwarfs even the Olympics.
I seen people complain about the "cost to the tax payer" Im sure most educated Australian would understand how economics work so i'll not expain it but we stand to gain from the world cup much more then we did from the Olympics.Les Tuesday 8 December, 2009 - 11:42 AM
