Bikie laws, do we need them?

Do we need the new bikie laws? Let Tim Webster know. We've seen over recent weeks police been busy cracking down on Bikie Gangs. Tim Webster asks today if we really need any new so-called Bikie laws, and points towards a PR exercise by the NSW government.

Do we need the new Bikie laws for NSW? Leave your comments for 2UE's Tim Webster below:

  • Of course we need those bikie laws. Finally the State Govt is doing something about it. Sure, there are lots of other crimes, but the police is doing something about the BIKIE RELATED CRIMES, isnt that a GOOD thing???

Plus, anyone else got better suggestions on how to stop the bikie crimes??

If you're not doing anything illegal, you have nothing to fear. Those laws won't affect you at all.

& If you're a part of a Bikie club that JUST ride bikes around and is not actually a criminal organization, you have nothing to worry about either.

  • No, we absolutely do not need these new laws. There are ample laws in place to prosecute lawbreakers. These anti association laws have far reaching affects for people like myself, who is married to an MC member. Not only will he run the risk of losing his network of mates, but I will also lose those friendships, or go to jail for pursuing them.My husband is a hard working man, who just happens to love bikes and the camaraderie he shares with like minded men in his club. The worst part of the new laws is that the police can apply for a control order, based on secret evidence, and we have no right to even know the allegations made, let alone defend ourselves! I think that is unjust and just plain wrong. Consorting laws were abandoned for good reason, the possibility of abuse is huge, and to be punished again and again for some past misdeeed goes agaiinst everything we as free Australians hold dear.People say that if you haven't done anything wrong, you have nothing to worry about, but I beg to differ. The secret evidence clause takes care of that. I think cops are trained to hate bikers, so where are the safeguards to protect us when a cop takes a dislike to a particular person and then decides to take it out on all their mates? Don't think it won't happen, as most people iin clubs already experience this type of disrimination. Look at the overkill on most planned club rides or poker runs. Cops should just get on with their jobs of catching crims, and stop trying to MAKE crims out of people just for hanging round with their mates.

  • We already have laws on drugs, weapons, consorting(crims hanging out with crims)If the police harassed the bikies by using the laws they have and confiscated all goods as proceeds of crime, jailed or huge fines for guns, drugs, etc. AND DIDN'T STOP we shouldn't need more laws.

  • Drug dealing, murder, assult etc are already against the law. These new laws in NSW, SA and where ever else now do nothing more to stop these crimes. A drug dealer will deal drugs weather he is in a club/gang or not. The only thing these laws will achieve will be to erode our civil rights

  • There's only six degrees of separation for EVERYONE to a Bikie somewhere in OZ.
That means,....the Government [in it's limited wisdom] is going to have to eventually lock up everyone in the country....

    ....and that means YOU! :)

  • No, properly use the laws currently in place and fix up sentencing. Let's be real here, this is just high profile stuff, some people are afraid of the sight of tattoos, beards, bikes etc. All the figures I have seen from independent sources about criminal activity show members of clubs (not whole clubs) are small players. Are the big time criminal organisations going to say "hey, wait a minute, we do more than the bikies". Of course not, the focus is off them and onto another group.
